Effective September 2, 2026
This policy explains what information this site collects, why it is used, when it may be shared, and the choices available to you. The site collects only the information needed to operate its current forms, answer inquiries, and protect the service.
Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to climatechangeisgood.com and the book, newsletter, speaking, and inquiry features offered through it. It does not govern third-party websites or services that may be linked from the site.
Information we collect
Information you provide
We collect personal information when you choose to provide it. Depending on how you use the site, that may include:
- Book publication notice: your email address, the date and time of your request, and the consent language you accepted.
- Counterpoint newsletter: your email address, the date and time of your subscription, and the separate newsletter-consent language you accepted.
- Speaking inquiries: your name, email address, organization, proposed date, format, location, budget range, message, and the consent language you accepted.
- Direct correspondence: information included in an email or other message you send to Christopher Forrest or the media address.
You are not required to provide personal information, but some features cannot work without the information requested.
Information processed automatically
When you visit the site, hosting and security systems may process standard technical information such as your IP address, browser or device type, requested page, referring page, and the date and time of the request. This information is used for delivery, reliability, fraud prevention, and security. The site itself does not store your IP address in signup or inquiry records and does not add your browser or device information to those records.
How we use information
Information may be used to:
- send the one book publication notice you requested;
- send issues of Counterpoint: The Forrest Report and related editorial updates when you separately subscribe;
- evaluate and respond to speaking, press, review, or other genuine inquiries;
- operate, maintain, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the site;
- prevent spam, abuse, fraud, or unlawful activity;
- maintain records of consent and honor access, correction, or deletion requests;
- comply with law and protect legal rights, safety, and property; and
- notify you of material changes when notice is appropriate and contact information is available.
The book-notice form is not a general marketing subscription. Newsletter enrollment requires its own affirmative consent. Submitting a speaking inquiry does not subscribe you to either list.
Newsletter
The site accepts separate subscriptions to Counterpoint: The Forrest Report. Newsletter addresses are stored privately with the subscription time and accepted consent version. A book-notice request does not automatically enroll that address in the newsletter, and a newsletter subscription does not create a book-notice request. You may unsubscribe or request deletion at any time.
When we share information
The site does not sell your personal information, rent mailing lists, or share personal information for unrelated third-party marketing. Information may be disclosed only in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers: vendors that host the site, store private records, route email, or provide security and operational support, solely as needed to perform those services.
- Legal and safety reasons: when reasonably necessary to comply with law, legal process, or a valid governmental request; enforce site terms; investigate abuse; or protect rights, safety, and property.
- Business transition: if the site or publishing operation is reorganized, transferred, or acquired, information may be transferred as part of that transaction subject to applicable law and this policy or a successor policy.
- With your direction: when you ask or authorize us to disclose information.
Cookies and analytics
The site uses Vercel Web Analytics to measure aggregate page views and visitors, understand which public pages are used, and evaluate outreach. It operates without third-party cookies and does not place email addresses or other form contents into analytics events. The site does not currently use advertising pixels or behavioral advertising.
Hosting and security systems may also process basic technical data needed to deliver and protect the site. Browser settings can still be used to block scripts, although doing so may prevent aggregate traffic measurement.
Data retention
Book-notice records are deleted on request or no later than 90 days after October 15, 2026, unless a longer period is required by law. Newsletter records are retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion, subject to limited records needed to honor suppression and legal obligations. Inquiry information is retained only as reasonably necessary to evaluate and respond to the request, maintain appropriate business records, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, or comply with law. Direct email is retained according to ordinary correspondence and legal-record needs.
Information may remain temporarily in backups, security records, or system logs until those records are overwritten or expire under ordinary retention practices.
Security
Reasonable administrative and technical measures are used to protect information, and form records are kept private rather than published through a public list or administration page. No Internet transmission or storage system is completely secure, however, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed. Please do not submit sensitive information that is not necessary for your request.
Your choices and privacy rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information associated with you. You may also withdraw a book-notice request before the notice is sent. To protect your information, verification may be required before a request is completed.
Depending on where you live, applicable law may provide additional rights concerning access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, objection, or appeal. Requests may be sent to christopher@climatechangeisgood.com. We will respond as required by applicable law.
Children
This site is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so the information can be reviewed and deleted as appropriate.
International visitors
The site is operated from the United States. If you access it from another country, your information may be processed in the United States or another location where service providers operate. Those locations may have data-protection laws different from the laws where you live.
Third-party links and direct email
The site may link to sources, platforms, or other third-party websites. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. Direct email links open your email application, and messages sent that way are handled by your email provider and the recipient’s email services rather than by a website form.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated as the site, newsletter, publishing activity, or legal requirements change. Material revisions will be posted here with a new effective date. Continued use of the site after an update is subject to the revised policy.
